my journey as a musician

I started playing the clarinet when I joined my secondary school's wind band in 2016. I was taking music under Music Elective Programme (MEP) and decided it would be good to join a music CCA. I had always been a music enthusiast, playing the piano till Grade 8 in my first year of secondary school, but playing in the band really broadened my horizons on how much more meaningful (and fun) making music could be.
With a newfound passion in wind band, I started playing a lot in the community. I was a certified BAND NERD. I auditioned for the WBAS Youth Band Festival in 2019 and had a blast. I didn't realise how lucky I was at the time to be able to play under the baton of Felix Hausworth, I was too busy partying with friends.

I was taking lessons with a local clarinet tutor at the time, Ms Satsuki Goh, and got my Grade 8 around Sec 3. I owe a lot of my foundational skills to her!

In my final year of secondary school, I DSA-ed into a bunch of schools, and managed to get into Raffles Institution (JC). I also had a great time in the wind band there! Continuing from my MEP days in secondary school, I also decided to take music at H2, and further on into H3, for my A-Levels. I did pretty well, and scored top of my class (though to be fair there were only 8 people in my class haha) and got a distinction for my H3 paper.

From 2020 onwards, I started playing a lot in community ensembles, and am still very thankful for all the wonderful opportunities to play in such meaningful groups! It also exposed me to how the music scene in Singaporeis actually pretty vibrant - there's always something happening.

However, I had always wanted to play in an orchestra. In 2021, I finally had a big break and managed to play with the Orchestra of the Music Makers (OMM.sg). It was a truly memorable experience, and I'm grateful to OMM.sg for the continued partnership!
